Dining Out - Kabab Restaurant
By Andrea Faiad
Family recipes create the Indian-influenced flavors of their native Pakistan and the surrounding countries.
After owning and operating the International Spice Grocery store for 10 years, Anwar and Najam Nisa decided to break new ground with a restaurant.
The married couple of 16 years, who have three children, use family recipes to create the Indian-influenced flavors of their native Pakistan and the surrounding countries.
So far, so good. They worked out a few kinks early upon opening and now are pleased to see word of mouth carrying in new customers weekly.
"One man comes in three or four times a week, and every time he brings friends with him," Najam says, smiling.
Hours
Open 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Value
The lunch buffet includes a choice of 10 to 15 items, including curries, bean dishes, rice, fruit and dessert items, for $6.49. The dinner buffet is $7.99 and includes a wider selection of meat dishes, as well as items that require more preparation than those on the lunch buffet.
Atmosphere
Very clean, tidy and warm with soft-colored booths and tables.
Worth noting
- Middle Eastern specialty drinks, such as mango shakes, are available.
- Entrees are homemade from personal recipes using fresh meats and vegetables.
- Goat and lamb curry as well as vegetarian dishes regularly featured.
The Nisa's plan to change the dinner selection to a order-from-menu instead of a buffet in a month or so. They're just waiting for supplies.
